In the words of our forefathers, yoga is about creating union of the body, mind and spirit. Put simply, as in the yoga Bija, 'Yoga is the unification of a web of dualities'.
So often in the west the practice of yoga is mis-commonly reduced to what it has to offer in a physical sense.... almost an over indulgence of the ego.
During my practice recently i was reminded of the importance of this, the importance of allowing myself, my unit of body, mind, and spirit the time it needs to open: and create new space for me to release and breath into.
For example, It feels like it has been a long time in the coming where i have patiently been cultivating an openess throughout my lower body to even attempt the splits (Hanumanasana in sanskrit).
Finding the fine line between effort and allowing is not always easy. It is hard not to fall into the ego trap of pushing harder and deeper in that moment. But by working towards finding this balance: by opening the body without creating more tension, feeling a release throughout your being, is much more rewarding than forcing openess and potentially creating strain and injury.
Be kind. Be patient with yourself.
Explore the interconnection between your mind and body: what does the union of body, mind and spirit really mean?

''I have been practising Hatha and Vinyasa yoga with Yas for almost a year now. Her sensitive approach is a truly personal experience and I have improved my practise through body and mind with her guidance. She touches on the ancient roots of yoga throughout each class, starting and finishing each practise with meditation and pranayama exercises, sharing her knowledge from her background training in the foothills of the Himalayas, which is really inspiring. In Yas’s classes I can really sense her dedication to yoga practise and her love to share that with others. Her class is always a highlight of my week, a truly mindful practise, which has given me the confidence to practise on my own. Her classes differ each week with new and interesting asanas, and she will happily share alternative postures for particular injuries and ability levels- she will always ensure there are postures to suit everyone in the class. I look forward to each class for the opportunity to learn from such a skilled and passionate yogini and to share a unifying experience with the rest of the group. I leave each class feeling a great sense of peace with myself- thanks Yas!''
